Chris Gilmour & Caleb Musgrave
Calen Musgrave Canadian Bushcraft

Sept 15

Theme: Pathways into Hunting & How to Develop Your Skills

Caleb Musgrave - Canadian Bushcraft & Chris Gilmour - ChrisOutdoors.ca

Caleb & Chris are the hosts for the entire free "Hunting with Heart" series and lead mentors of "The Hunter's Journey" training & community.

During the first call of this series they will share two stories of getting started in hunting and share a pathway for getting started, developing your skills, and hunting sustainably.

Caleb Musgrave is a Mississauga Anishinaabe Woodsman and Hunter. He is a generational hunter who grew up learning his techniques and mindset from his father, uncle and grandparents. With a background in ecology as well as archaeology, Caleb has a deep understanding of humankind and hunting.

Chris Gilmour considers being a hunter as part of his identity as a human. "To me, hunting is about a deep connection to the land, being part of the food chain, providing for my family while being a steward of the earth, and achieving some degree of self-reliance and independence from the modern industrial food system."

Sept 22

Theme: Preparing to Take a Life & Intro to Small Game Hunting

Sandy & Cal Reed - Original Wisdom

Together with Kercey Lawrence (Oct 14 Guest), Sandy & Cal run Original WisdomSchool.

Sandy has been hunting for over a decade now and focuses on deer and turkey. To her, hunting is not a sport or activity. It is a philosophy for living one’s life. She is proud to have made her own bows and has hunted successfully with them. She loves to combine the skills of tracking, trailing and hunting into a way of living with the earth.

She is currently a Level 2 International Wildlife Tracker, in both the U.S. and South Africa, certified through Cybertracker in track and sign and trailing. She recently earned her Level 3 certification in track and sign in South Africa in 2021.

Cal's south Texas upbringing only had small game to offer. Rabbit, squirrel, dove, and quail were primary table fair along with fresh and salt water fishing resources. He is a self taught primitive bowyer that teaches making a complete archery system from the landscape.

One of his proudest achievements is when he harvested a deer in 1997 in West Virginia with locally sourced osage bow and cane arrow with a Kanawha black flint arrow head he fashioned himself.

Theme: Hunting Whitetail Deer & Reading the Land

Alexis Burnett - Earth Tracks Outdoors School

Alexis is a Hunter, Naturalist, Tracker, Herbalist, Wilderness Skills Practitioner and founder of Earth Tracks Outdoors School & OrganiGrow Canada.

Here is a quote from his website;

"By learning from nature through immersion and direct experience we begin to see and more importantly ‘feel’ the inter-relation of all things in the natural world. And from here we can begin to understand the important role that we all can play in protecting and preserving the Earth for future generations."

Oct 14 (Thursday @ 7pm EST)

Theme: Learning to Hunt, From Start to Finish

Daniel Vitalis - Wild Fed

Daniel Vitalis is the host of the WildFed TV Show & Podcast.

After learning to hunt, fish, and forage as an adult, Daniel created WildFed to inspire others to start a wild-food journey of their own

He’s a Registered Maine Guide, writer, public speaker... who’s especially interested in helping people reconnect with wildness, both inside and outside of themselves.

Here is a quote around Daniel's Wild Fed Philosophy from his webpage:

"We believe in a vision of humans as ecological stewards, rather than simply apex predators. Trophic hunters, not just trophy hunters. Tenders of the wild, rather than mere sportsmen. We believe in ecologically sound harvests, revering all species and kingdoms, and honoring our harvests by thoughtfully caring for and utilizing them."
